male of the household, whom one of the non-commissioned officers recognized as one of the rabble who was on the western edge of the city yesterday with a firearm, looking as if he were spoiling for a fight, claiming that our troops had killed several innocent civilian relatives of his as well as many neighbors and friends. He was lying of course. Any civilian deaths that occurred were due to their aggressive attitudes toward our military, incidents in which we were either forced to defend ourselves or civilians got in the way of our response to hostile aggression. Collateral damage. We threw him to the ground, secured his hands behind his back amidst the moans and wailings of his family and carted him off to be interrogated.

We've been fired upon so many times by so many different groups of people, who laughingly claim to be fighting for their God, family and countrymen, that I'm afraid our troops are losing patience with them and often fire first and ask questions later. They absurdly claim that we are the oppressors and they are the oppressed, but they couldn't anymore govern themselves right now than our school age children could. It is we who have assured that they become part of the civilized world through our military efforts and our guidance. No way could they do it on their own. All we ask of them is to lay down their arms, and no further harm will come to them. We could then continue our house to house investigations arresting possible suspects for interrogation.

We are willing to set up a council of people we select who are friendly to us and our country, so that they could be self-governing, but we must maintain a military presence for several years in the event these same terrorists who are in our faces now won't cause further problems with their lies of oppression, occupation and murders by our troops at any time in the future. They won't have any of it so we have no other alternative but to lay siege to their cities, sending in our patrols from time to time to kill the insurgents who are trying to kill us.

We are enduring attacks and sabotage of our military equipment on a daily basis. A large percentage of the people are with us. It is just a few thousand of the terrorists who are causing problems. It is, of course, completely false that the majority of the people hate us and want us to leave so they can govern themselves.

I'm afraid I have to cut short this report as we are undergoing, this very minute, an assault on one of our supply convoys on the outskirts of the city.

I remain, your loyal and dedicated supporter as always,

Lord Cornwallis, his Majesty King George's most ardent servant.
