Iranian Ship Sinks in Persian Gulf

The director of the public relations office of Bushehr Ports and Maritime Affairs, Hossein Pourqayyoumi, told IRNA on Friday that so far the rescue teams have saved 60 passengers out of the 72 that were onboard the sunken vessel amid continuing efforts to recover the remaining 12.
The Iranian ship, carrying oil equipment for the South Pars facilities in Bushehr Province, sank in the Persian Gulf on Thursday.

Pourqayyomi said seven out of the 12 missing people are rescuers that have been trapped in the ship but are known to be alive as they have the oxygen required for another 24 hours.
He added that five or six of the missing people are probably foreign experts.
The ship was reportedly heading towards southern Assaluyeh Port from the nearby oil platforms when it sank 15 miles away from the harbor due to an overload of cargo.
