Tom Cotton: Guantanamo detainees can 'rot in hell'
Kellly Cohen
Sen. Tom Cotton had choice words Thursday for Guantanamo Bay detainees.
"In my opinion, the only problem with Guantanamo Bay is that there are too many empty beds and cells there right now," the Arkansas Republican said at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing. "We should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe."
"As far I'm concerned, every last one of them can rot in hell. But as long as they don't do that, they can rot in Guantanamo Bay,” the Iraq War veteran added.
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., spoke after Cotton, saying he agreed with his sentiments on the prisoners.
As of January, 122 prisoners remain at the military prison. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who chairs the committee, said Thursday the committee is moving forward with a bill barring further transfers from Guantanamo Bay, the Washington Examiner reported Thursday.
