The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal.
"Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained..
"Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute...”
"I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country," Obama continued. "I wasn't asking for blood, just money. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I'd have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help reduce the nation's deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans."
I have to respond to the person who submitted the article: "WHAT HAVE WE AS A NATION DONE??"
President Obama is absolutely correct. NO ONE is forcing these men/women to sign up. NO ONE! The risks and what comes with those risks should be obvious to the intelligent. If the un-intelligent do not comprehend the risks of wanting to go to war and kill then maybe parents should start stepping in and explaining that going to war with the desire to help(?) and kill others means MORE! than a college education.
Our BRAVE and HEROIC police and Firefighters ALSO pay for their own healthcare and i found this article extremely inflammatory and a bit on the ignorant side.
There is NO DRAFT! NO ONE in their right mind would, or should, sign up to volunteer their very lives and limbs unless of course.......they are "pretending" that war! is only a college education? That would be far more ignorant than anything Obama has said. wouldn't it?
I reiterate: "There is NO draft. It is voluntary. The police volunteer to sign on for the job, as do our firemen. Why do the soldiers want free care? Our police and firefighers are not demanding it. Your president is not demanding it either. So where's the beef!?
