There are probably few teens or 20-somethings who have not argued at least once with their parents about going to church.

But a case in Texas, police say, reveals that one young man took his dispute with his father about religious services way too far.

He’s accused of stabbing his father to death during an argument over Sunday morning worship.

According to a report from KETK, officers from the Smith County Sheriff’s office allege 22-year-old Patrick Crowder Jr. stabbed and killed his father, Patrick Crowder Sr., 46.

It happened several hours before dawn on Sunday, reports said.

“Witnesses at the scene advised that the two had been arguing about whether Patrick Crowder, Jr. was going to church the following morning,” KETK said. “The argument escalated and Patrick Crowder, Jr. allegedly secured a knife from the kitchen and subsequently stabbed his father causing his death.”

Authorities reported an arrest warrant was issued for the younger man and he was taken into custody and remained in the Smith County Jail on $500,000 bond.

The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant, then evidence from the scene and an autopsy was ordered, the report said.

The Dallas News reported another resident at the home the two men shared called police.

The father and his wife, Rashunda, attended Higher Dimensions Ministry in Tyler, Texas, the report said.
