EPA Discovers Chemical Dangers 10 Years after Dr. Clark

Dr. Clark is working on things that are way ahead of the times. There are many instances where this can be shown, but one of the more recent examples has made its appearance on the front page of the Saturday, June 7, 2003 edition of The San Diego Union Tribune. They reported that 2 years ago, 3M discovered that high levels of a chemical used in its Scotchgard fabric protector were found in dozens of birds whose bodies were found along San Diego County’s coast. This article now appears 10 years after Dr. Clark warned of the dangers of furniture polish and Scotchgard in her book “The Cure For All Cancer’s, page 183, published in 1993.

“…Now federal regulators have been persuaded to look anew at man-made compounds long used in modern conveniences such as Scotchgard, Teflon and Gore-Tex. These chemicals are known as per-fluorinated acids. These chemicals have enormous uses in furniture, fabrics, leather, greasy food wraps. Why are we just now finding out about (their) toxic effects and wide spread contamination?

..Yesterday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency held its first public meeting on whether to restrict the use of one of the chemicals – perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA. The chemicals have been studied several times in recent decades, apparently raising little concern..

..Documents and interviews show that companies such as 3M and DuPont continued to profit from these compounds even after company scientists discovered them in drinking water and found a chemical in California children at levels that the EPA considers unacceptable..

..The EPA was prompted to action this time because more recent studies showed that the chemicals were found in humans at levels close to that at which laboratory rats developed problems during industry tests.

The EPA announced in April that rats exposed to high doses of PFOA which is used to make Teflon, Gore-Tex, clothes, cosmetics and hundreds of other products were more likely to die, develop liver cancer and experience delayed sexual maturation than normal rats…”

Well, I could go on but you get the idea. 10 years after Dr. Clark’s studies were made available; finally it’s being looked at, and even made the paper. Who would’ve thought!?!
