Dear Friends and Valued Customers:

Coronary heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the US, so I'm always excited when I read new research that holds promise for reducing cardiovascular mortality. Most recently, I came upon a study published in the BMJ that indicates increasing our total fiber consumption by just 7 grams per day—what you can get from two to four servings of fruit—can reduce our cardiovascular disease risk by 9%. When you consider how many lives that could save nationwide, that's pretty big news. My first report has the details.

VideoNext we have some exciting new research on cinnamon and diabetes. According to a study published in the Annals of Family Medicine, researchers at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA, conducted a meta-analysis of ten randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of cinnamon in patients with type II diabetes and found that cinnamon not only helped lower fasting glucose levels, it also had a favorable effect on blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Read my second report to find out more.

Finishing off this week we have new research from Spain that suggests eating walnuts may help protect against metabolic syndrome, which could have major implications for the prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The study found that eating a walnut-enriched diet resulted in significant increases in plasma concentrations of adiponectin, a hormone involved in fat metabolism and storage, as well as a reduction in levels of free fatty acids. These effects are believed to be due to walnuts' omega-3 fatty acid content. You can read more about it in my final report.

As always, I wish you the very best of health.
