Dear Friends and Valued Customers,

I’ve talked about bone loss and osteoporosis in the past and I’m going to talk about it again today because it affects so many people (osteoporosis is the underlying cause of more than 1.5 million bone fractures annually) and, because so many advances in treatment are being discovered all the time.

Bones act like a storehouse of minerals that our bodies need. According to eMedicineHealth: "During a person’s lifetime, the body constantly breaks down old bone (through a process called resorption) and builds up new bone. Any time old bone is broken down faster than new bone is made, net bone loss occurs. Bone loss can lead to low bone density (osteoperia), weakness of the bone, and eventually osteoporosis."

Breaking new ground, scientists initiating a study funded by the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service have found that carotenoids, antioxidant pigments from plants, may protect against bone loss. Check out my first report below to learn more about this fascinating find.

Alcoholism is another area of health that hits close to home for most all of us. I’m sure everyone reading this knows an alcoholic. One of the main areas of concern for alcoholics is maintaining a healthy liver. The first course of action for an alcoholic is that he or she must stop drinking immediately, but in most cases the liver has already been damaged.

Now researchers in the U.S. and Russia have found that probiotics, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Lactobacillus plantarum specifically, may help improve liver health in alcoholics. Read on to find out more about this study published in the journal Alcohol.

My third report today outlines a study that shows the protection vitamin C provides against high blood pressure in young women.

I know you will find these studies very informative and hopefully they can help you or a friend in the quest for better health.

As always, I wish you the very best of health.

Vitamin C Appears to Improve Blood Pressure

High intakes of vitamin C may protect against blood pressure (BP) increases in young women, according to a new study. Researchers, led by Gladys Block from the University of California, Berkeley, report that a one mg per deciliter increase in blood vitamin C levels was linked to a 4.1 and 4.0 mmHg decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressures.
