Will Governor Richardson Keep Aspartame's Ten Grand?

Smaller Font Larger Font RSS 2.0

Blaine Richardson III. The battle to free New Mexico from this incontrovertible neuroexcitotoxic carcinogen, the artificial sweetener aspartame, faces a phalanx of toxic corporate lobbyists. These corporations include Japanese Manufacturer Ajinomoto, the world's largest producer of aspartame and monosodium glutamate, plus numerous American corporations which add this poison to 6000 food products and over 600 children's medications and vitamins, knowing full well aspartame is metabolized as methanol which converts to formaldehyde. These companies have subverted the state regulatory capacities which were vested in the Environmental Improvement Board and have regrettably bought their way into influence in Governor Richardson's office.

Fortunately for New Mexico they have been unable to buy the Legislature. This week, the New Mexico Senate committee's committee determined that Senate Bill 654 was "germane" and could be considered by the Senate without the gubernatorial Executive Message. This demonstrates considerable integrity and recognition of the medical necessity of not waiting until 2007 to prohibit this poison. The bill's future will be decided this afternoon, Friday, in the Senate Public Affairs Committee.

For more information read Senate Bill 654 on the New Mexico Legislature web site and the bill sponsor is the Honorable Gerald Ortiz y Pino. He can be reached at 505 986 - 4300. Governor Richardson is at 505 827 3000. Senate President Pro Tem, the Honorable Ben Altamirano is at 505 986 4733. H. J. Roberts, M.D. can be reached at HJrobertsmd@aol.com Stephen Fox, author of the legislation, is at stephen@santafefineart.

Subject: Will Governor Richardson Keep Aspartame's Ten Grand?

Dear Amanda Cooper:

Re: Will Governor Richardson keep Aspartame's Ten Grand?

As you are Campaign Manager for Governor Bill Richardson you're sensitive to the powerful forces pressuring him to capitulate to the aspartame industry. Their fight is to kill New Mexico's threat to their poison, so Altria Corporate Services (Kraft/Philip Morris /Parent of General Foods) contributed $10,000 to your campaign and hired the Governor's good friend, Walter "Butch" Maki as their lobbyist.

They're trying to buy protection. If they're successful they'll go on poisoning your people and filling your hospitals. If Bill ignores this bribe he'll draw an ineradicable line in history as a man of unassailable principle, truly committed to his constituents welfare. When they gave you the ten thousand they handed the Governor a priceless opportunity to show integrity and compassion for his constituents:

Select ten grievously afflicted victims of aspartame disease and give the funds to them. The thunderclap will resound nationwide, worldwide: New Mexico's Governor ISN'T FOR SALE!

This will have a political downside. Aspartame advocates including Coke, Pepsi, Ajinomoto, General Foods, Calorie Control Council, the NM Soft Drink Association etc. will line up with open checkbooks, that's how they do business. Many FDA officials galore got cush jobs in the aspartame business, including three Commissioners. What works in DC should work in Santa Fe, right? Tell the world it's Wrong!

Bob Geller, my brother, is a 16-year Marine Green Beret combat veteran, holder of Purple Hearts and scars; but it was aspartame that nearly killed him. I got a call that he was dying in a Portland OR Veteran's hospital. He had many fatal aspartame symptoms, but was so addicted he couldn't kick it, no matter how I pleaded. I asked Dr. James Bowen, an aspartame/Lou Gehrigs victim himself, to deal with the hospital. He found my brother in ICU drinking a Diet Coke. If he didn't give the hospital a hard time my brother would be dead. So I flew to Portland and gave the VA stacks of medical evidence. A doctor told me: "If this information hadn't been kept from us a lot of our patients would be alive, not buried."

There are multitudes of such cases, victims with many of the 92 symptoms of aspartame disease once listed by the FDA from 10,000+ consumer complaints. I have file cabinets full of them. A just completed 3-year study by a famous Italian cancer institute on 1,800 rats concluded with the summary "Aspartame is a multiple potential carcinogen." Don't feed it to New Mexicans. Outlaw it!

Please, Amanda, ask Governor Richardson to either return the $10,000 contribution by Altria Corporate Services (a merger of Kraft and Philip Morris), or better yet, make his own donation of the same $10,000 to ten of the worst aspartame poisoning victims in the United States.

It's the right thing to do!

Respectfully, Dr. Betty Martini, D.Hum,

P.S. To show you an example of General Foods/Altria's link to aspartame besides the fact its used in their products read this obituary from some years ago:

"Developer of Aspartame Dies, Aged 54

"NEW YORK, NY (AP)

"Torunn Garin, a food engineer who helped develop the sweetener aspartame, died Friday. She was 54.

"Garin died of lung cancer at her home in Bronxville, N.Y., her family side. She also had a home on the British Virgin Islands.

"From l971 to l985, Garin worked for General Foods, where she helped to develop aspartame as a sugar substitute and became a national spokeswoman for the sweetener."

If you wish other links just ask!
