The Hazards Of Microwave Cooking and Cell Phones!

Microwave cooking is one of the most important causes of ill health. It is certainly one of the most ignored. If you find this hard to believe - read on:

There was a lawsuit in 1991 in Oklahoma. A woman named Norma Levitt had hip surgery, but was killed by a simple blood transfusion when a nurse "warmed the blood for the transfusion in a microwave oven!" Logic suggests that if heating is all there is to microwave cooking, then it doesn't matter how something is heated. Blood for transfusions is routinely warmed, but not in microwave ovens. Does it not therefore follow that microwave cooking does something quite different?

Normal heating of food occurs when heat goes from the outside to the inside. Microwaves work just the opposite. The waves go to the inside and then move outward. The food molecules are hit by the electromagnetic radiation and forced to reverse polarity very quickly. That is, the molecules start spinning. This tears them apart and sometimes rearranges them into toxic substances that cause many allergic responses. It is this friction which produces the heat that 'cooks' the food. Unfortunately, this violent force also rips apart and deforms the molecular structure of the food. It is no longer `food' - it just looks as though it is.

A little evidence of the harm caused by microwave cooking was given by the University of Minnesota in a radio announcement: "Microwaves ... are not recommended for heating a baby's bottle. The bottle may seem cool to the touch, but the liquid inside may become extremely hot and could burn the baby's mouth and throat... Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breast milk, some protective properties may be destroyed.... Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water or by setting it in a bowl of warm water, then testing it on your wrist before feeding, may take a few minutes longer, but it is much safer".

There have been very few scientific studies done on the effect of eating microwave-cooked food. This is rather surprising when you think about the fact that microwaves have been with us for several decades now, while in this same time frame the incidence of many diseases has continued to increase, especially in the west where microwaves are in common usage.

Two researchers, Blanc and Hertel, confirmed that microwave cooking significantly changes food nutrients. Hertel previously worked as a food scientist for several years with one of the major Swiss food companies. He was fired from his job for questioning procedures in processing food because they denatured it. He got together with Blanc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Biochemistry and the University Institute for Biochemistry. They studied the effect that microwave-cooked food had on eight individuals, by taking blood samples immediately after eating. They found that after eating microwave-cooked food, hemoglobin levels decreased. "These results show anemic tendencies. The situation became even more pronounced during the second month of the study". Who knows what results they would have found if they had studied people who ate microwave-cooked food for a year or more? However their research was stopped.

Further research has revealed that the violent changes to the food molecules also form new life forms called radiolytic compounds. These are mutations that are unknown in the natural world. Ordinary cooking also causes the formation of some radiolytic compounds (which is no doubt one reason why it is better to eat plenty of raw food), but microwave cooking causes a much greater number. This then causes deterioration in your blood and immune system. In addition, they found that the number of leukocytes increases after eating microwave-cooked food - something that hematologists take very seriously, because this is often a sign of highly harmful effects, such as poisoning.

Also, after eating microwave-cooked food, cholesterol levels increased. Hertel said "Common scientific belief states that cholesterol values usually alter slowly over longer periods of time. In this study, the markers increased rapidly after the consumption of the microwave-cooked vegetables." He believes his study tends to confirm new scientific data that suggest cholesterol may rapidly increase in the blood secondary to acute stress. "Also," he added, "blood cholesterol levels are less influenced by cholesterol content of food than by stress factors. Such stress-causing factors can apparently consist of foods which contain virtually no cholesterol - the microwave-cooked vegetables."

The results were published in "Search for Health" in the spring of 1992. How was this research greeted? A powerful trade organization, the Swiss Association of Dealers for Electro-apparatuses for Households and Industry somehow made the President of the Court of Seftigen issue a 'gag order'. Hertel and Blanc were told that if they published their findings they would face hefty fines or up to one year in prison. In response to this, Blanc recanted his findings. Hertel, on the other hand, went on a lecture tour and demanded a jury trial.

FINALLY, in 1998 the Court 'Gag Order' was removed. In a judgment delivered at Strasbourg on 25 August 1998 in the case of Hertel v. Switzerland, the European Court of Human Rights held that there had been a violation of Hertel's rights in the 1993 decision. The Court decided that the 'gag order' prohibiting him form declaring that microwave-cooked food is dangerous to health was contrary to the right to freedom of expression. In addition, Switzerland was sentenced to pay compensation of F40, 000.

Standing in front of a microwave is also highly damaging to your health. Perhaps you have already felt this intuitively? We know that cells explode in the microwave - just fry an egg in your microwave. We are made up of trillions of cells. So work out how many are getting damaged if you stand in front of your microwave for 5-10 minutes. This also raises the issue of cell phones, which we will come back to shortly.

In the past I had been told that it was important for people to stop eating microwave-cooked food, but I did not pay too much attention to this because I had been microwave cooking for years. I never thought much about it but I suppose that I figured that if something was so bad for us, then there wouldn't be so many people using it. Little did I know.

When I first began seeing clients for sessions of kinesiology, I did not worry too much about telling them to give up eating microwave-cooked food. However, I kept a record of all of the corrections that were needed for each client when they came in. Now, once a correction is made, it is to be hoped that the correction will stay in place for a long time to come, hopefully months if not years. People often ask me "How long will it last?" My answer to them is "That depends on your lifestyle".

Most of my clients came back to see me after about two weeks. In the early days I found that many who came back were not much better. I found that they were again 'out of balance'. That is, their electrical circuits were not working correctly (which is common for many people). It was therefore not surprising that they were not much better, because the body does not begin to fully fix itself until the electrical circuits are in balance. The question was why did their electrical circuits go out of balance? The answer had to be something that was highly stressful, to effect the body in such a short space of time. Once that answer was remedied, the client would begin to get better. Using muscle testing, I went through the process of testing if the cause was electrical, chemical/nutritional, emotional or structural. Again and again the same answer would come up - electrical. When I then went through a range of possible electrical causes, the same answer again came up again and again - the person had eaten microwave-cooked food! Incidentally, this answer never came up when a person had NOT eaten microwave-cooked food.

I began to tell all of my clients on the first visit that under NO circumstances were they ever to do microwave cooking again. I gave this a higher priority than any of things normally considered as

health risks, such as cigarettes or alcohol. Immediately I began to get a marked improvement in the results I was getting. Long term problems such as headaches, backaches and emotional instability went away within a few weeks.

Other kinesiologists can confirm these results. David Bridgman, who has years of experience as a kinesiologist, said "Of all the people I test for allergies, 99.9% so far show severe sensitivity to any microwave-cooked food".

So be warned! Many restaurants use microwave cooking, even 'health' restaurants. Ask if the "steamed vegetables" are in fact steamed - or are they microwave-cooked? I have sent meals back when they have not been what they were described on the menu, much to the surprise of the restaurant owners.

One last story: The Cornell University in 1977 irradiated some sugar and fed it to rats. The type of cell damage shown on post mortem was the same as if the rats themselves had been irradiated!

So, it's up to you. One point to bear in mind is that our society runs pretty much on money. The multinational companies who make microwave ovens make a lot from the sale of them. There is no money in telling people to stop microwave cooking. There is, however, the satisfaction of knowing that you are saving people's lives and future happiness by spreading the word to stop eating microwave-cooked food.

You can easily heat up food by using a wok. If someone is coming home late, and you want to give him or her warm food when they arrive, put a saucepan lid over the food while it is on a plate. Put the plate of food on a simmering saucepan of water. It will stay warm without drying up. If you want to cook food, do it the old fashioned ways - it tastes much better that way!

How to reduce your risk from cell phone microwaves

Getting back to cell phones, these have long been suspected for irradiation effects to the brain, particularly over and above the ear where they are held by the user. More research is pending but every time a study has been done showing a link with a wide variety of symptoms from headaches and ringing in the ears to brain tumors another study is produced debunking or casting doubt over the initial studies. As a cynic regarding the profit motive and how it colors ethics in business one can see a ploy here. I have grave concerns for our children's future when I see the massive proliferation of cell phone usage by our youth. We are sitting on a digital time bomb and I believe we will see the incidence of microwave irradiated brains becoming far more apparent in the years to come.

As cell phones have become such a convenient tool in modern life, many of us choose to use them, I do, but don't ignore any suspicions you may intuitively feel about them. Try muscle testing a person while using one. It is a real eye opener! So what can we do to protect ourselves if we persist in using these modern communication devices? Several things will reduce your risk and exposure to cell phone microwave irradiation. They will not stop the effects but will dramatically cut your risk from potential health problems occurring. If you or someone you love uses a cell phone regularly get them to do the following:

1. Reduce the use of the phone to important calls only. Use land based phones wherever possible. This is a real challenge with teens!

2. Transfer incoming calls to a land based phone near by as soon as possible or take the persons number and call them back on one.

3. Have a hands free car phone installed if you are on the road a lot and go to the car to accept calls rather than use a hand held phone.

4. Use an ear piece extension to the cell phone to keep the transmitter away from your brain - contrary to some media reports the vast majority of brand name ear pieces do in fact reduce cell phone microwaves entering the brain NOT increase them as some media reports have stated. You can easily get yours checked with a handheld microwave detector available at most modern electrical appliances shops if you are in doubt for no cost.

5. Install a cell phone 'bio-protector' card available from this clinic. This has been shown to reduce the damaging effects of all types of radiation to the body not just microwave. It won't eliminate the source of the irradiation but will 'allow' your body to compensate for some of it's effects very well. Many of my patients report reduced headaches or hot spots from using these cards alone. They only cost $50 and can be transferred from phone to phone.

6. Wear a credit card sized 'bio-protector' card on your body (cost $55). These have a stronger effect when used with the cell phone card and considerably reduce the stress to the body from any form of irradiation. They can be transferred easily and create a protective field around 1.5m in diameter.

7. When on a call hold the phone away from the ear by using your fingers outstretched while holding the phone so that the ear is a finger length away from the transmitter in the phone and the aerial. Phones that have wrap around aerials (like the Motorola startak and microtak) that follow the curve of your head increase your exposure to microwave substantially.

8. Change the phone from ear to ear during the call (while holding it away from the brain as discussed in 7 above) and get off the darned thing as soon as you can.

9. If you have a phone that can change from digital to analogue switch it over every time you turn it on. Many mid to top range phones have this feature. Why? Analogue microwave is a fifth less damaging to the brain than pure digital alone.

Vodafone will not like this, but it is a proven fact that digital cell phones (021's) are at least 5 x more toxic to the human body and living cells than analogue (025's). This is one of many reasons why Telecom stopped its 'upgrade' of their analogue cell phone network to exclusively digital in NZ in 1998-9. The pulsed digital signal creates a popping effect which the body has difficulty handling compared with an analogue sine wave signal that is much easier on living systems. It gets technical but many of you will understand what I am simplifying here. If you have an exclusively digital phone consider getting rid of it (no I am not being paid by Telecom!). You can easily hear the difference between an 021 digital and an 025 analogue by making a call and holding the phone close to a radio speaker while it is turned on. Try it - you will soon want to throw your digital phone away. TV1 did an expose of this on 'A current Affair' prime time TV in 1998.

The bottom line in all of this is reduce your exposure - less is better for both cell phone microwave exposure and microwave-cooked food. If you eat out a lot in Auckland you are probably being exposed excessively to both!
