The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a class I recall of SpaghettiOs. In its recall release, the agency specifies that an estimated 15,000,000 pounds of canned "SpaghettiOs with Meatballs" are affected. The reason for this recall is under-processing.
The FSIS insists that it has not received any reports of consumer illnesses related to the SpaghettiOs recall, but does go on record advising that it is classified as posing a potentially high health risk. Campbell's Soup: Recall Facts and Label Information
Campbell's details the facts of its SpaghettiOs recall to only affect three varieties, namely those with meatballs. The products in question are the SpaghettiOs with Meatballs that are sold in 14.75-ounce cans, those labeled as A to Z with Meatballs in the same size can, and Fun Shapes with Meatballs (in this case, the "Cars" characters) in the 14.75-ounce cans.
Use-by dates fall between 06-2010 and 12-2011. The plant code is EST4K. From Choking Hazard to Under-processed Food
This is not the first Campbell's Soup recall in recent years. In October of 2007, ABC News alerted its audience that 72,000 cans of Campbell's Chunky Baked Potato with Cheddar & Bacon Bits soup had been recalled due to plastic pieces inside the food that posed choking hazards. At that time, three consumers complained of minor injuries. Of course, the SpaghettiOs recall is not the only one the FSIS is warning about. While it may rank higher on the consumer radar, simply because the shapely pasta is a favorite of kids, a potential salmonella health warning goes out to buyers of Marie Callender's Frozen Cheesy Chicken and Rice.
