Israel announced on Sunday that its Iron Dome defence system had intercepted missiles fired from Syria following an Israeli attack on Damascus Airport, Arab48.com has reported.

A senior Israeli military official revealed that the missile launched from Syria did not target the Israeli aircraft which carried out the attack in Damascus. It was, the source explained, a ground to ground guided missile, adding that this was the first time that a Syrian missile had been launched in retaliation for an Israeli attack. Israeli media reports claimed that it was a Syrian and Iranian response.

According to Haaretz, Russia said that four Syrian soldiers were killed and six were wounded in the Israeli attack on Damascus on Sunday. Syria’s air defences destroyed more than 30 cruise missiles and guided bombs during the air strikes, claimed Moscow.

The Israel Defence Forces said that it hit Iranian military targets in Syria, including “munition storage sites, a military site located in the Damascus International Airport, an Iranian intelligence site and an Iranian military training camp.”
