Lord Butler of Brockwell, who chaired an inquiry into the use of intelligence in the lead up to the 2003 invasion, suggested the former Labour Prime Minister and his advisers had failed to research the area’s history before agreeing to support America in the war.
Writing in Civil Service World magazine, Lord Butler said that “critics legitimately wonder how much those who took decisions about intervention in Iraq really knew about the history of those troubled regions”.
Lord Butler was Private Secretary to five Prime Ministers, as well as Cabinet Secretary to Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair.

Mr Blair has been criticised for not taking enough care to plan Iraq’s future after the allied forces had topped its dictator Saddam Hussein.
Lord Butler added that he was concerned cuts had meant departments had meant that Whitehall historians had lost their jobs: “It is said that, under budgetary pressures, all departments except the Foreign Office have disbanded their historical sections.
“If so, that is deeply regrettable and departments need to put in place alternative means of access to advice on the history of both departmental policy and the national institutions with which they deal.”

The Butler family scion is a very powerful bloodline connected to the Normans and the Ormonde. The Butler’s have a big control over Ireland! Notice that Lord Butler is a Privy Councilor and he is a member of the Order of the Garter and head of UK intelligence via the Intelligence and Security Committee. Wars are not decided by the Prime Minister, wars are decided by the City of London Corporation, Vatican and strong arms of theirs such as the Intelligence and Security Committee. Do not be fooled that this war was all Blair’s decision. Has everyone forgotten the false dossier created by Hill & Knowlton in Niger at the time working as a front for British MI6.
