Iran dismisses Israeli president’s offer to meet Rouhani

Iran dismissed on Tuesday an offer from Israeli President Shimon Peres to meet his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani. An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, Marzieh Afkham, said it was a ploy by Israel to try and ease their world isolation after the nuclear deal clinched in Geneva last month. Perez has said that he would be happy to meet to Rouhani, that he did not have enemies and that the diplomatic situation between Iran and Israel was “not a question of personalities but of policies.” Perez’s role as president is purely symbolic and ceremonial.
