US drone raids kill 5 in Pakistan

Security officials said on Monday that the American drone targeted a vehicle and a house with two missiles, killing five people at Degan village near Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan on the Afghan border.
The death toll is expected to rise, and the rescue operation is underway in the area, local residents say.
The US resumed its assassination drone operations in recent days after it halted the CIA-operated strikes in November 2011, when 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed in NATO attacks on two Pakistani military border checkpoints in Mohmand agency.
The airstrikes sparked angry protests across the country. Pakistan’s military issued new directives and warned the Pentagon that it would shoot down drones if they violate the Pakistani airspace.
Pakistan also closed the border crossings that were used to transport supplies to US-led forces in Afghanistan and ordered all American personnel to vacate a remote airfield in Balochistan province.
