In the wake of Afghanistan’s collapse to the Taliban after the United States funneled trillions of dollars and 20 years, there are plenty of opinions to go around. The overwhelming majority of people have watched in horror as the country descended into total chaos. Americans and Afghan allies have been left trapped in the country with no way out as the Kabul airport was overrun by the Taliban and flights were canceled. Now, President Biden is ordering troops back to the country to ensure Americans make out of the country but the disaster is likely only just getting started.

On Monday, CNN shocked Americans over a reporter’s commentary regarding a pro-Taliban protest in Afghanistan. CNN’s Clarissa Ward raised eyebrows when she said that” locals are chanting “Death to America” and yet “seem friendly at the same time.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi supported President Biden’s actions in Afghanistan, taking it a step further to even say he should be “commended.”

The President is to be commended for the clarity of purpose of his statement on Afghanistan and his action. The Taliban must know the world is watching its actions. We are concerned about reports regarding the Taliban’s brutal treatment of all Afghans, especially women and girls.

In another eyebrow-raising message, Media Matters president Angela Carusone mocked Americans for reaching out to senators for assistance leaving Afghanistan. Carusone’s tone-deaf message came after Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton tweeted that any American stranded in Afghanistan should contact his office, offering to help in any way to evacuate the trapped Americans.

Imagine being trapped in Afghanistan in this moment..and thinking best person to call is Tom Cotton of all people. Honestly, if someone’s in that situation where Tom Cotton is the only number they can call, they’d be better off just calling NYC’s 311. I mean really. Tom Cotton.

Not a ‘Failure’

The Pentagon is trying to deflect blame over the current crisis and says it’s not a total failure.

“Was this a failure of intelligence or planning?” asked a reporter of General Taylor. “What we know happened at the airport was that there were a lot of Afghans that were trying to get out of the country, so I don’t think that was a lack of planning,” he responded. (per Townhall)

Chinese Propaganda

U.S. Department of State

In the wake of Afghanistan falling to the Taliban, it wasn’t long before Chinese propaganda began mocking the tragedy.

“How Washington abandoned the Kabul regime particularly shocked some in Asia, including the island of Taiwan,” the Chinese state outlet Global Times wrote Monday. “The situation in Afghanistan suddenly saw a radical change after the country was abandoned by the US. And Washington just left despite the worsening situation in Kabul. Is this some kind of omen of Taiwan’s future fate?”

“From what happened in Afghanistan, [Taiwanese authorities] should perceive that once a war breaks out in the Straits, the island’s defense will collapse in hours and the US military won’t come to help,” the Global Times added. (per Fox News)
