- National Guard held the exercises starting around 10pm in Providence on Friday
- Residents heard explosions and saw soldiers running across their streets
- Others felt their houses shake as helicopters flew overhead and landed nearby
- Many complained that the Army had not notified them of the planned training
- The Army said it put up notices, went door-to-door and made cell phone calls
- But it admitted it was 'impossible' to tell everyone in the densely populated area
- Similar exercises were run in Newport and Pawtucket, as well as other locations
