Rod Rosenstein submitted his resignation letter to President Trump, ending a tumultuous two years in which he tried to steady a rocky Justice Department and its relationship with the White House.

Rosenstein drew extensive criticism from the president throughout the Mueller investigation but stayed until the completion. Rosenstein was embattled but since the release has faced little criticism from the Trump administration.
