Trump Defies Critics, Set to Meet Top Detractors in Congress

A top House Democrat and member of the Congressional Black Caucus is meeting with President Donald Trump on Wednesday to discuss efforts to lower prescription drug prices — a rare area of potential cooperation between the Republican administration and its adversaries on Capitol Hill.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) has been attempting to schedule a meeting with Trump to discuss the issue for a month, and it became the subject of a testy exchange between Trump and reporters last month, when the president suggested Cummings had canceled their plans to meet at the advice of fellow Democrats. Cummings later rejected that characterization and indicated that his office and the White House were working to schedule the meeting.
Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Johns Hopkins Hospital President Redonda Miller are slated to join Cummings at the meeting. It’s one of a small number of meetings Trump has had with Democratic lawmakers.
