Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats think they are riding high.

They are set to take power in the House where they believe they can block President Trump’s agenda and ultimately impeach him.

But that plan blew up when Nancy Pelosi kicked off 2019 by making the biggest mistake of her life.

President Trump and the Democrats are locked in a battle over funding Trump’s proposed border wall.

Democrats decided to shut down the government rather than provide the votes for the five billion dollars Trump requested for the border wall.

Liberals figured with Pelosi seizing power on January 3, the Democrats just had to bide their time until they could force Trump and the GOP to cave.

And that strategy came into focus when Pelosi revealed her plans to reopen the government.

Once their majority was gaveled in, Democrats would pass a government funding bill with no wall money.

In fact, the bill would only include a paltry $1.3 billion for border security – a lower figure than the $1.6 billion the Senate previously agreed to.

Pelosi was betting on the fact that Senate Republicans would judge the situation hopeless and swallow the Democrats bill.

This would force President Trump to sign onto a funding scheme that effectively killed his border wall.

But one of Trump’s top allies in Congress shut the Democrats plan down.

Mark Meadows – the leader of the House Freedom Caucus – proclaimed the bill dead on arrival.

“Nancy Pelosi’s newest funding proposal doesn’t represent any serious attempt to secure our border or find a compromise. A $1.3 billion Democrat wish list that includes zero money for a border barrier is a non-starter and will not be a legitimate answer to this impasse,” Meadows tweeted.

Trump backed up Meadows and opposed any bill that did not fund the wall.

The President noted that the usual Washington promises about border security – drones and other technology to create a “virtual wall” – would not pass muster.

“The Democrats will probably submit a Bill, being cute as always, which gives everything away but gives NOTHING to Border Security, namely the Wall. You see, without the Wall there can be no Border Security – the Tech “stuff” is just, by comparison, meaningless bells & whistles.”

President Trump continued, “Remember this. Throughout the ages some things NEVER get better and NEVER change. You have Walls and you have Wheels. It was ALWAYS that way and it will ALWAYS be that way! Please explain to the Democrats that there can NEVER be a replacement for a good old fashioned WALL!”

Trump also noted Pelosi’s plan faced another hurdle.

Normally when one party assumes control of Congress, they spend their first days passing poll-tested messaging bills that prove they will live up to their campaign promises of changing the way Washington works.

This time, Pelosi’s opening weeks as Speaker will center on her decision to shut down the government.

“Border Security and the Wall “thing” and Shutdown is not where Nancy Pelosi wanted to start her tenure as Speaker! Let’s make a deal?” Trump tweeted.

Pelosi completely misjudged President Trump’s intentions on the border wall.

This was not just a campaign talking point to be discarded once the realities of “governing” set in.

Trump believes the wall is necessary to defend America’s sovereignty and he intends to fight to see that happen.
