Obama dragging US into Russia confrontation : Analyst

An American political analyst says the utterly hypocritical US leaders are dragging America “into a possibly cataclysmic confrontation with Russia.”
In an interview with the Economist magazine, US President Barack Obama has criticized his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as a leader who causes short-term trouble for political gain. Obama has also said that Russia is a failed country that “doesn’t make anything.”
Eric Draitser, the founder of Stop Imperialism says demonizing Russia and Putin is part of Washington’s “geopolitical calculation” as “Russia is able to assert its independence in the face of coercion [and] in the face of aggression from the United States.”
“President Obama’s recent comments in regards to Russia and Russian President Putin should not come as a surprise to anybody who’s been following the developments closely. The United States has carved out a political position for itself not only in opposition to Russia but in which it must demonize Russia and paint Russia as the great geopolitical foe of the 21st century, that is to say America’s enemy, recasting Russia as some sort of a reincarnation of the former Soviet Union,” said Draitser in a phone interview with Press TV on Monday.
He also said that Putin has especially been a thorn in the side of the US because under his leadership Russia “began to carve out a new path for itself, a path in which it can have an independent foreign policy and in some regards at least an independent economic policy.”
“What Putin represents in Russia is a resurgence of strength that is to say that Russia is able to assert its independence in the face of coercion and aggression from the United States,” the analyst stated.
Draitser also referred to a recent demonization effort by the White House against Russia in which it accused Moscow of violating a nuclear arms control treaty.
“The reality of course that is never told in the US mainstream media is that under President Obama the United States has modernized and expanded its nuclear arsenal,” he said. “It is really the pot calling the kettle black once again where the United States hypocritically, I might add, accuses other nations of violating treaties that it itself has systematically violated for years.”
