A document unveiled by a California attorney in her quest to determine President Obama's place of birth has been condemned as a forgery by critics who deride as nonsense the challenges that have been raised to the president based on the U.S. Constitution's demand that the Oval Office occupant be a "natural born" citizen.

But those on the other side, who would like to see the original documentation

of Obama's birth place revealed, say there are factors that indicate the Kenyan birth document could be real.

WND reported when the document was submitted to a California court by California attorney Orly Taitz, who has managed several of the high-profile cases challenging Obama's eligibility to be president.

Then yesterday, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., raised the dispute to the floor of that august body, protesting in a speech added to the Congressional Record that the dispute was not worth one minute of time.

According to a posting in the Washington Independent, a "source" said the Obama document was nothing more than an alteration of "certified copy of registration of birth" from Australia.

This document documents the birth of Jeffrey Bomford in Australia, and was posted online.

"There are striking similarities between this document and the one Orly Taitz is passing off as a 'Kenyan birth certificate' for Barack Obama," the report said. "The design is identical, down to the seal at the top and the classifications ('Christian name,' etc) used for identifying the baby.

"The 'registrar' on the Bomford document is G.F. Lavender. On the Taitz document, it’s E.F. Lavender," the critics continued. "The 'district registrar' on the Bomford document is J.H. Miller. On the Taitz document, it's M.H. Miller."

"What's more likely – that two Kenyan bureaucrats shared last names with two Australian bureaucrats, and that the numbers on both certificates were identical? Or that someone used this document, available online for anyone who wanted to look, to forge the Obama 'certificate?'" the Independent report asked.

But on Taitz' website, a linked provided replies to the point-by-point criticisms.

"Definitely there [are] grounds for more investigation and the courts need to act on this matter," the analyst wrote. Taitz told WND a day earlier she's already begun seeking out those who could pursue the necessary examination to determine its validity.

Among the criticisms, and the responses linked on the Taitz site:

• Criticism: Document is dated Feb. 14, 1964 and includes "Republic of Kenya," even though that designation wasn't official until months later. Response: It would be common for a state after recently declaring it's independence to act independently rather than continue under the old rule.
• Criticism: The number 44-O-47 is coincidental as President Obama is the 44th president, and was 47 years old. Response: The number is 44,047, with a "zero," not an "O."
• Criticism: The name E.F. (Earth Friendly) Lavender is a soap. Response: Also the name of a plant. Lavendar also is a SURNAME!
• Criticism: Coast General Hospital actually is Coast Provincial General Hospital. Response: People abbreviate. It's not proof of anything.
• Criticism: Obama's father, born in 1936, would have been 24 or 25, not 26. Response: Obama Sr.'s actual birthdate isn't known.
• Criticism: Would a nation with a large number of Muslims say "Christian" name? Response: Wikipedia reports, "The term Christian name is often used as a general synonym for given name."
• Criticism: Obama's father's village would be nearer Nairobi, not Mombasa. Response: Mombasa would have better facilities than Nairobi where Obama Sr. probably had few ties.

The response also noted, "Some may be asking what's the difference … between his Hawaiian short form birth certificate and this new 'smoking' Kenyan short form?"

The response also noted while Hawaiian officials say they have "valid" birth documentation for Obama, "was it a Hawaiian registration of a FOREIGN birth?"

"BHO as POTUS works for We The People, we the taxpayers, he is not a king and is not above the law, and he most certainly is required to prove eligibility and to answer any and all questions regarding such," the response said.

Another commentary noted that the date on the Kenyan document, from early 1964, coincides with the time frame when his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was divorcing Barack Obama Sr.

"[The judge] who presided over the divorce would have requested a copy of Barack Obama Jr.'s birth record or original birth certificate," the commentary said. "The newly formed Republic of Kenya would have had to generate a copy of the birth certificate and then would have had to create a new Kenyan birth record from the original British Commonwealth birth records of 1961."

On the Free Republic comment page, one participant wrote, "I'd be skeptical if Hussein suddenly produced a Hawaiian BC. Genuine or not, I'm equally skeptical of this."

"Total hoax," said another.

"If this is a fake, someone has gone to a lot of trouble to create it, unlike the very sloppy and obviously fake image on the Fight the Smears website," said a third.

A document analyst who previously judged the birth document Obama posted online to be a forgery said the purported Kenyan document is no more real than the first.

According to the commentator, who identifies himself by the pen name "Polarik," the Kenyan document is "another bogus birth document."

"I also found a number of anomalies that shout, 'Forgery,'" he wrote on Free Republic. "It's a government document saying the birth happened and that a birth certificate exists – or pretty much like Obama's bogus Hawaiian COLB."

Taitz told WND she's been discussing the document with several individuals who apparently "are willing to investigate." She's also awaiting word from the federal court in California on how her requests to preserve the evidence and verify its accuracay will be handled.

The document lists Obama's parents as Barack Hussein Obama and Stanley Ann Obama, formerly Stanley Ann Dunham, the birth date as Aug. 4, 1961, and the hospital of birth as Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya.

No doctor is listed. But the alleged certificate bears the signature of the deputy registrar of Coast Province, Joshua Simon Oduya. It was allegedly issued as a certified copy of the original in February 1964.

WND was able to obtain other birth certificates from Kenya for purposes of comparison, and the form of the documents appear to be identical.

Last week, a counterfeit document purporting to be Obama's Kenyan birth certificate made the rounds of the Internet, but was quickly determined to be fraudulent. The new document released by Taitz bears none of the obvious traits of a hoax.

Taitz told WND that the document came from an anonymous source who doesn't want his name known because "he's afraid for his life."

Taitz's motion, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, requests the purported evidence of Obama's birth – both the alleged birth certificate and foreign records not yet obtained – be preserved from destruction, asks for permission to legally request documents from Kenya and seeks a subpoena for deposition from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"I filed the motion with the court asking for expedited discovery, which would allow me to start subpoenas and depositions even before Obama and the government responds," Taitz told WND. "I am asking the judge to give me the power to subpoena the documents from the Kenyan embassy and to require a deposition from Hillary Clinton so they will be forced to authenticate [the birth certificate].

"I'm forcing the issue, where Obama will have to respond," she said.

"Before, they said, 'You don't have anything backing your claims,'" Taitz explained. "Now I have something. In fact, I have posted on the Internet more than Obama has. My birth certificate actually has signatures."

WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama's status as a "natural born citizen." The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."

Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama's American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama's citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Complicating the situation is Obama's decision to spend sums estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid releasing a state birth certificate that would put to rest all of the questions.

WND has reported that among the documentation not yet available for Obama includes kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and adoption records.
