Who Are Our Masters?

Many of us can recall Butch Cassidy repeatedly asking of the Sundance Kid, and perhaps the Lord: "Who are those guys?"

Similarly, it would appear that we do not know who our real Masters, the ultimate Masters are.

Democratic, socialistic and communistic ideologues would submit that the Masters of their societies are the Citizens, that is the People. But to believe this, one would need to overlook the abuse the People have suffered under any of these forms in the history of the past one hundred years, and ask if indeed the People had invited such.

There is some support for the downside of this notion from the scholar who offered: "A people has the government it deserves,” and from one whose name I do remember, Pogo: "We have met the enemy and he is us." But these dictums fall short of conclusiveness in that there are others who do recognize their inherent truth, and extend their utility by additional means in pursuit of greed, lust for power, or madness. So yes, we may deserve our fate but we --the deluded, obtuse and of the penchant to not get involved --do not manufacture the purposeful treachery that besets us.

These abuses flow from what have proved to be manipulations and outright lies promoted by governments in pursuit of gains by other than the People and at the People's expense. Examples of these include spurious reasons for war to the profit of the weapons makers, the burgeoning security business, theoil cartel, bankers and investment houses, et al.

These dark endeavors, using the People's resources, include wars that cost trillions of the People's treasure to secure oil or pipeline rights (e.g. the current prize from Turkmenistan down through Afghanistan) that could in total be acquired on the market for a small fraction of the wars' costs. But then the People's costs don't matter. What matters only is the margin that accrues to the Masters. No matter that the People's sons die in the wars of lies, but only that the Masters prosper, in coin of the realm, feathering of their posh nests, indulgence in yachts and exotic hobbies, nourishment of their lust for power, or even simply in honing their madness. So, it's not the People.

Could it then be the President, not Masters but just one Master? After all he does have within arm's reach the red phone which requires no other authority to use, a use that could within minutes commence the slaughter of hundreds of millions of humans and end all other life across continents. But that phone hasbeen sittingthere for fifty or sixty years, never to be used for purpose, in callous arrogance, by whim or intoxicated caprice. But does he have that unilateral authority, or is that information a public instruction to cover the existence of authority higher than the President? It seems reasonable to so believe when we speak of a President who is not permitted to command routine-level citizen conformance to his desires without the difficulty of passing bills through Congress for infinitely smaller authority than that to destroy continents. So, there are simply too many questions here and too many known things that the President simply lacks the authority to command. He -- imperious as his station has now come to appear -- is not the Master.

Is then, Congress, the President's frequent frustration, the Masters? Categorically in no way. Congress has become so progressively more venal across recent years that it is not even the master of its own integrity and courage but the callow servant of campaign contributors and under-the-table favors, a servant to money-runners hardly competitive with those of the Mafia. We are simply commonly now stuck with the ilk of Congress folk who will leap at the opportunity to advise any and all that they cannot be held responsible for anything. Certainly none of the fiber necessary for mastery here!

It appears that exhausts the official American political hierarchy in the search of mastery. Whither next to explore? Conspiracy theorists have it that there is acontrol group outside of any single government organization. Their favorite for the role of the Masters is the Bilderberg Group, but here again this proposition has just some credibility.

This "group," born in the Netherlands some fifty years ago, and maintaining its headquarters there, meets annually, usually in Europe but once every four years in the US or Canada. Its membership consists of about 130 representatives, by internal invitation only, from 18 nations, who are mostly persons of great influence in politics, business and banking. And although all sessions are closed and enjoy the tightest security in an atmosphere many would view as furtive, we are given the names of the participants, the complete list, we are told. At their meetings, no resolutions are proposed, no votes taken, and no policy statements issued, or so we are again told. A curious mind might be tempted to wonder then, what indeedis this international cadre absorbed in behind their bolted doors, dark corridors and pervasive aura of superiority? Receiving instructions? Taking orders?

The case for the Bilderberg Group being our Masters does notstand up torigid examination. Its members (well, many of them) are known and for the most part active in open public roles, quite a few of them appearing as honorable as well as generally respected for their contributions to their individual professions, respective societies and the international community. The case against the Bilderbergers is based upon suspicion rather than upon evidence or positive intelligence. It is likely they are not the Masters we seek to identify after all.

Where does this now leave us? Our basic problem remains that wedo not know who the Masters are. We have, it appears, finally sensed that such as presidents and prime ministers are not atop the org chart but second or perhaps third tier, and that "representative" assemblies -- congresses, parliaments and such -- are beneath them as a diversionary ploy to impress the citizens bythe charades of debate and representation. Then there are the government departments which simply carry out their orders --however treacherous --from the executive, and there is the judiciary which provides the stamp of approval -- of constitutionality if you will -- upon everything predetermined.

Then there are the subservient roles of state and local governments, basically: primary and secondary education (including revisionist history and even science that may accommodate “creationism”), trash removal, fire fighting, perhaps water supply, and law enforcement (progressively more invasive and brutish) now more and more in cooperation or coercion with federal authority, and if that is insufficient we now have the specter of the national military to come in and "help protect the citizens," posse comitatus be damned!

In short, we have all the symptoms of being Mastered but have failed to isolate and identify the germs. Too many bad things are happening to us that are beyond natural phenomena and the rigors of logic. Our infants and old folk suffer and die lacking medical cures known to us.Our treasure is openly stolen and gifted to professional and moral failures. Our children are sent to slaughter thousands of miles from our shores for no decent or believable reason. These unnatural, unrewarding, terrible and vicious things do not just happen. They must be invented, incited, planned and directed.

Somewhere, in some personae, our Masters are at work.

Sorry, Butch Cassidy, we still don't know: Who are those guys? But it's important that we have the awareness to insist in the question.
