Many pundits credit Trump’s pitch to conservatives on filling Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court for why he won the election.

Republicans “came home” and lifted him to victory over Hillary Clinton.

To fulfill his promise, Trump just made a huge announcement about his Supreme Court pick.

Trump had announced that as of next week he would have a nominee to announce.

And reports now indicate his selection will come from one of three finalists.

Politico reports:

“President Donald Trump has narrowed his first Supreme Court nomination down to three finalists with Tenth Circuit judge Neil Gorsuch and Third Circuit judge Thomas Hardiman emerging as the frontrunners while Eleventh Circuit Judge Bill Pryor remains in the running but fading, according to people familiar with the search process.

Trump interviewed at least those three finalists in New York during the transition, according to a person familiar with the search. Trump himself said Tuesday he would fill the Court’s empty seat next week and has summoned top Senate leaders to the White House to discuss his impending choice to replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died nearly a year ago.

“The president want to move as quickly as he can,” said Leonard Leo, one of Trump’s advisers on the court pick and a top official at the Federalist Society.

Leo declined to discuss Trump’s short list but he praised both Gorsuch and Hardiman effusively.”

Neil Gorsuch – a 49 year-old Justice who serves on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals – is seen as an emerging frontrunner.

He has pleased conservatives in two rulings that upheld religious liberty.

In the Hobby Lobby Stores v. Sebelius case, Gorsuch authored a concurrence – despite the Obamacare mandate – that upheld the right of the Hobby Lobby owners to not offer abortion inducing drugs as part of their company’s benefits package because it conflicted with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

Gorsuch also sided with religious liberty in the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged v. Burwel case where he dissented from the majority opinion that the Little Sisters of the Poor were not provided sufficient accommodation for not providing abortion inducing drugs that violated their religious beliefs.

The Supreme Court later ruled 8-0, vacating the Tenth Circuit Court decision which backed up Gorsuch’s ruling.

Gorsuch authored a dissent in the Planned Parenthood Association v. Hebert case as well.

In that case, the Governor of Utah directed state agencies to stop acting as a pass through for taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood after undercover videos released by the Center for Medical Progress had revealed the organization was harvesting body parts and organs from fetuses and then selling them profit.

The Tenth Circuit later vacated the order, but Gorsuch argued that the district court that upheld the Governor’s decision to withhold Planned Parenthood funding due to their illegal activity was correct.

He has also written about the sanctity of life.

His 2006 book entitled, “The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia”, was described by Princeton University Press as:

“A nuanced, novel, and powerful moral and legal argument against legalization [of assisted suicide and euthanasia], one based on a principle that, surprisingly, has largely been overlooked in the debate—the idea that human life is intrinsically valuable and that intentional killing is always wrong.”

Neil Gorsuch has strong backing in conservative legal circles and American Patriot Daily News will continue to keep you updated on President Trump’s selection to fill Justice Scalia’s seat.
