Judge issues blistering 'Under God' ruling

A judge in New Jersey didn’t just rule against an atheist who filed to stop his Matawan-Aberdeen school district from using the phrase ‘under God’ in the pledge – he issued a sharp rebuke to the plaintiff.
Judge David Bauman dismissed the case in February, but it just came to public light this week after his ruling was published. In it, he told the high schooler, who was not identified in court documents, the Pledge of Allegiance didn’t violate his non-religious rights.
“The Evidence Bible” is now available and includes, besides the King James version, dozens of articles expanding answers to questions such as why is there suffering, explanations about what Muslims believe and scientific facts written millennia before man discovered them.
“Protecting students from viewpoints and ideas that may offend or upset them is not and has never been the role of public schools in America,’ the judge wrote, the blog Conservative Tribune reported.
He also pointed out how “under God” appears as a phrase everywhere in America.
“As a matter of historical tradition, the words ‘under God’ can no more be expunged from the national consciousness than the words ‘In God We Trust’ from every coin in the land, than the words ‘so help me God’ from every presidential oath since 1789, or than the the prayer that has opened every congressional session of legislative business since 1787,” he wrote.
And one more note the judge made: Even the New Jersey state constitution references God, he said, pointing to the fact the “very constitution under which” the student tried to obtain “redress for perceived atheistic marginalization could itself be deemed unconstitutional,” he wrote, the blog reported.
