President Donald Trump blasted House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Wednesday, saying he should be concentrating on maintaining the majority in the House rather than giving his views on birthright citizenship, "something he knows nothing about!"

Trump's comments came in a tweet.

He wrote: "Paul Ryan should be focusing on holding the Majority rather than giving his opinions on Birthright Citizenship, something he knows nothing about! Our new Republican Majority will work on this, Closing the Immigration Loopholes and Securing our Border!"

Trump's reference to the Republican majority working on the issue appears to conflict with his insistence in an interview released Tuesday he could do it with an executive order.

Ryan shot down Trump's idea to eliminate birthright citizenship through an executive order.

"You obviously cannot do that – you cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order," he said Tuesday.

In another Wednesday tweet, Trump attached an old video of former Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., speaking out against birthright citizenship.

Trump wrote: "Harry Reid, when he was sane, agreed with us on Birthright Citizenship!"

Trump has vowed to end birthright citizenship and said the Supreme Court would settle the issue.
