In the aftermath of the ISIS terror attacks that killed well over 100 people in Paris last week, calls from across the country have been made to end the intake of Syrian refugees.

Despite the ISIS terror attacks in Paris, President Obama wants to expand the number of Syrian refugees coming into the United States. Many, though, are balking at this plan; and leading the way is the State of Texas, which just put an end to Obama’s plans in no uncertain terms.

In the aftermath of the ISIS terror attacks that killed well over 100 people in Paris last week, calls from across the country have been made to end the intake of Syrian refugees; and Texas, Alabama, and Michigan have all expressed opposition to Obama’s plan to increase the intake of Syrian refugees coming into their states.

Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, issued a letter on Monday telling the President that his state would not take any more Syrian refugees in the current climate of threats of terrorism here in the homeland.

But Abbott didn’t stop there. He went on to say that “American humanitarian compassion could be exploited to expose Americans to similar deadly danger,” and then noted that even the FBI has reported that it cannot stop terrorists from being mixed in with Syrian “refugees.”

“The FBI director,” Abbott’s letter reads, “testified to Congress that the federal government does not have the background information that is necessary to effectively conduct proper security checks on Syrian nationals, Director Comey explained: ‘We can query our database until the cows come home, but there will be nothing show up because we have no record of them.'”

Abbott ended his letter urging Obama to end the federal government’s efforts to import more Syrians not just in Texas, but throughout the country.

“I urge you, as president, to halt your plans to allow Syrians to be resettled anywhere in the United States,” Abbot wrote. “Neither you nor any federal official can guarantee that Syrian refugees will not be part of any terroristic activity. As such, opening our door to them irresponsibly exposes our fellow Americans to unacceptable peril.”

The Texas Governor isn’t alone. The Republican governors of both Alabama and Michigan have also said they intend to reject any additional refugees brought into their states by Obama.

While admitting that all refugees are certainly not terrorists, Gov. Rick Synder of Michigan nonetheless said that his “first priority is protecting the safety of our residents.” With that, he proclaimed that no more Syrians will be allowed into his state.

For his part, Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley insisted, “I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way,” before similarly ending any renewed influx of Syrian refugees coming into the Yellow Hammer State.

Despite all this, Obama has said that he fully intends to increase the number of Syrian refugees imported into the U.S. Obama said he wanted to “lead by example” and “take the moral high ground” by accepting tens of thousands of Syrian refugees. Needless to say, Paris did this also; and it seems to have led to the biggest terror attack France has suffered in decades.

Meanwhile, Rep. Bradley Byrne, R-Ala., called on President Obama to put a halt to the Syrian refugee program in the wake of the attacks in Paris.

“We have no greater responsibility as a federal government than to ensure the safety and security of the American people,” Byrne said in his letter to the president. “It is clearly in the best interest of the American people to halt the Syrian refugee resettlement program.”

By Monday afternoon, both the Republican governors of Illinois and Indiana joined Texas, Michigan and Alabama in putting a halt to the importing of Syrian refugees into their states.

On Monday, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner said, “We must find a way to balance our tradition as a state welcoming of refugees while ensuring the safety and security of our citizens.”

In his statement, Indiana Governor Mike Pence said, “Unless and until the state of Indiana receives assurances that proper security measures are in place, this policy will remain in full force and effect.”
