A Great Victory In Utah !!
The FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) would entangle 34 Western Hemisphere nations in exactly the kind of sovereignty destroying arrangement in which the nations of the European Union (EU) now find themselves. The various proposals ostensibly promoting 'free trade' have little to do with Freedom when they contain thousands of pages of trade regulations, regulations which will be interpreted by un-elected foreign bureaucrats. If you liked NAFTA and the loss of jobs and industry which resulted from that trade agreement, you will love the FTAA!
Please take the following actions to defeat the FTAA and preserve our jobs and sovereignty:
1. Sign the online petition at the following link. The petition will be sent to your two Senators and your Representative. http://www.stoptheftaa.org/petition/
2. Study the reasons for defeating the FTAA at this link: http://www.stoptheftaa.org/
3. Team up with local members of The John Birch Society in your area to get a resolution against the FTAA passed in your state legislature. They are actively working on getting a resolution passed. A sample resolution as passed by the Utah State Senate can be found at the following link: http://www.le.state.ut.us/~2005/bills/sbillenr/sr0001.pdf
4. If you live in Utah, thank those Representatives and Senators who voted for the resolution. Ask those who voted against the resolution to justify that vote.
The FTAA can be defeated if we pool our resources and efforts. Congress will 'see the light, when they feel the heat'.

We thank Bliss Tew of the John Birch Society for the following information on the victory in Utah.
Dear JBS Leaders:
This is another historic moment in Utah Legislative history. This morning, Friday, February 18, 2005, the Utah House of Representatives voted in favor of House Resolution 9. H.R. 9 is "HOUSE RESOLUTION DISCOURAGING PARTICIPATION IN FREE TRADE AREA OF THE AMERICAS.
Personally, I've been saying my prayers of gratitude for the Lord's excellent hand in blessing the efforts of so many John Birch Society volunteers in Utah to bring this 2nd 2005 victory in Utah to fruition. The victory is stunning with a vote of 61 "yeas" vs 8 "nays" and 6 absent! That's nearly and 8-to-1 victory against the establishment of the Free Trade Area of the Americas Agreement.
I could go on endlessly acknowledging the various Committee Chairmen, Section Leaders, Chapter Leaders, and members of The John Birch Society who played a role in this effort to educate 104 State Legislators regarding the threats of the FTAA Agreement to continued American national independence, but there's not enough room here. Suffice it to say that our prior planning, commitment to the plan, member's sacrifices to purchase the educational tools needed from the American Opinion Book Services ( www.aobs-store.com ) , and the dogged determination of our volunteer leaders to negotiate with the State Legislators to bring about sponsors and cosponsors have brought about this accomplishment.
We hope other State Legislatures will take up the work as well to oppose the FTAA. If you haven't read the horrific, endless, stifling FTAA agreement, go to www.fttt-alca.org and look up the 3rd Draft of the FTAA Agreement. If you have a lifetime to spend you might be able to read its endless pages of legalese and UN-ese language. It would kill Free-Enterprise economics in America and this hemisphere and move us towards monopoly-capitalism and communism instead. Its not about "free trade" its all about "managed trade" and creating supranational government bureaucracies to rule over us.
Thanks to the JBS Staff in Appleton, Wisconsin for their website ( www.stoptheftaa.org ) as another tool for bringing the truth to Legislators. Effusive thanks to the staff of The New American magazine for their excellent article on the topic of the FTAA ( www.thenewamerican.com ) especially their September 6th, 2004 issue of their magazine which was delivered to every single one of the 104 Utah State Legislators in 2004 to read. The issue was titled on its cover: Erasing America. And also the February 7th, 2005 issue "Losing our Independence" which was also purchased by our Utah Stop The FTAA Committees and distributed to Utah's Legislators in a timely fashion prior to this latest vote in the Utah House.
God bless all of you who have stood up for freedom and national independence in this John Birch Society-led campaign to expose the truth about the Free Trade Area of the Americas.
Best Regards,
Bliss W. Tew
