To those who feel solidarity with the people of Venezuela and their fully democratic election, some of us are forming a Bolivarian Circle in the Austin, TX area. I will talk by phone tomorrow to find out what will be expected of us, but I believe it is our existence that is most important. The Circles are under the umbrella "Hands off Venezuela," a large group of people who want to prevent U.S. interference with the mostly socialist, fully democratic government of Venezuela.

Please contact me if you would like to be a part of this circle or learn more. There are several in the U.S. now, mostly in the large cities. This is surely the first one in Austin. To the best of my knowledge, our sole purpose is to oppose all U.S. intervention in Venezuela. As we said of Iraq, "It's their land; it's their oil." Of Venezuela we can add, with great compassion and empathy, "and it's THEIR form of government and president, elected with no questions of legitimacy, as exist in some "democracies."

It's time to stop saying we support democracies if we are going to continue to support only those whose outcome is in our interests. Please let me know if you'd like to make a stand here. Please put VENEZUELA or Bolivarian Circle on the subject line.
