What’s Happening:

After months of delayed negotiations, Congress finally produced a COVID relief bill. And it was a stinker.

Donald Trump slammed the bill that would send billions to foreign nations but gives very little to hard-hit Americans.

At first, he threatened a veto, which would shut down the government. On Sunday night, he instead signed the bill.

However, Trump had a trick up his sleeve. From Daily Wire:

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday evening that he was signing the coronavirus stimulus package and the government spending bill, and that he will use the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 in an attempt to get Congress to drop what he called “wasteful spending” in order to get them to boost the coronavirus stimulus checks up to the levels that he demanded last week.

Using the Impoundment Control Act, Trump sent the COVID bill back to Congress with demands to change certain parts of it.

He promised to send a “redlined” version of the bill back to Congress, calling on them to make major changes.

Among the changes, he wants to focus on providing relief to Americans and cut spending on foreign nations.

He wants $2,000 payments to individual adults and additional money for those with children. He also wants more protections for renters, more money for the PPP, support for airline workers, and more money for vaccine distribution.

The process he is using sends a “special message” to Congress. They will be urged to make the necessary changes to the bill.

The amounts he wants canceled will be “impounded” for 45 days of “continuous congressional session.”

The only thing now is to wait for Congress to get their act together. Will they bother to heed the president’s advice and make the changes?

Or will they once again put foreign nations ahead of American citizens?

What do you think? Do you want Congress to cut spending on other countries and increase support for working Americans?

Key Takeaways:

  • After threatening to veto the COVID bill, Trump signed it.
  • He sent it back to Congress with demands to cut back on certain spending.
  • He is demanding more payments for Americans and other forms of support.
