Anti-Trump Dem OUSTED From Powerful Posts

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) lost two powerful positions today amid growing controversy about her role in the alleged retaliation against a rape victim formerly employed in her Washington, D.C. office. (The Dallas Morning News)

The Houston Democrat was ousted as chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and also as chair of a House Judiciary subcommittee.

Jackson Lee, currently serving her 13th term, has faced backlash since being accused in a lawsuit filed last week of unlawfully firing a young woman who planned to pursue legal action against a former employee of the foundation.

The woman, referred to as Jane Doe in the Jan. 11 lawsuit, alleges that she was raped by Damien Jones, the foundation’s internship coordinator, in October 2015. Doe was a 19-year-old intern at the time.

Doe worked for Jackson Lee from November 2017 to March 2018, and alleges in her lawsuit that she was fired as the congresswoman’s director of public engagement after telling her chief of staff that she planned to pursue allegations against Jones. Jackson Lee has denied any retaliation as a motive for the firing.

The National Alliance to End Sexual Violence released a terse statement saying it could no longer continue its collaboration with Jackson Lee as the leading sponsor of legislation to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.
