Aug. 3, 2015

The new Congress is getting things done for the American people, and in this week's Republican address, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) ticks off some of the progress made in the first seven months, including:

  • The first real entitlement reform in nearly two decades, which is on track to save taxpayers $2.9 trillion;
  • The first 10-year balanced budget blueprint since 2001; and
  • New tools to fight human trafficking; improve veterans' care; and advance free trade and American jobs.

She also ticks off some items Congress is working on, saying that “we are just getting started”:

  • Fixing the VA to help veterans get the care they need it when they need it;
  • Accelerating the discovery, development, and delivery of life-saving cures; and
  • Education reformso that every child has a chance to go to great schools no matter where they're from.

For more, watch the address in English and Spanish, and check out these headlines:

Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Washington, ticked off Saturday a list of legislative accomplishments, including enacting Medicare reform, expiring bulk collection of phone data, ensuring Congress has some say in approving the recently negotiated Iran nuclear deal, and adding more resources to fight human trafficking. …  She went on to list bills still on the agenda, including legislation to reform education standards, modernize the VA system, and change the federal government's role in biomedical research and funding.” (CBS News)
