My daughter has been waiting for her rebate check. She made 2500 in wages last year. She got all of her taxes returned. She has not even been informed of her rebate. So I searched on line. The rebate is being issued based on your ability to pay it back. She will not get a check. But that means all those people with disability are expected to pay it back.....everyone is expected to pay it back. If they don't normally file......they are being forced to file....and they will be forced to pay it back next year.....so a filing must be done again.    WHAT A SCHAM! Are they gonna charge us interest too?Aj

In response to the email about the rebate: a minimum of $3000 in earned income with income taxes withheld is the standard requirement.  For senior citizens they were required to file a 1040A based on either their regular or disability social security; then they would receive $300 for a single person; six for a couple.  If a person is the dependent of another taxpayer there would be no rebate.  All other tax payers are to receive a 'rebate' based on income and taxes paid in.  This 'rebate' was not to be reported for the 2008 tax year.  Unless something changed between the time we filed taxes for our clients and today, this 'rebate' is non-taxable.  Anyone earning less than $3000 of earned income would not be elible.  There has been a great deal of confusion concerning this issue.  However, if one wishes to learn if they are elible for the rebate just go to www.irs.gov and follow the instructions on the Rebate Calculator on that screen.
