Behind Bars: Inmates Unleashed (Updated)

Smaller Font Larger Font RSS 2.0

On today's show we're taking an in-depth-look at a world most people rarely get a chance to see! The National Geographic Channel brings us their miniseries, "Lockdown," taking us inside the closed world of high-security prisons where violence is commonplace and a secret code amongst inmates is held in high regard. Their 2-hour special, "Prison Nation," analyzes the effects of our countries penal system, asking if is it really keeping people safe from crime or are America's prisons making criminals even more dangerous? We'll meet Tara Spaulding, a woman who has one of the toughest jobs in America, a correctional officer at a maximum security prison in Arizona. She'll share her experience working with some of the most dangerous prisoners ever. Criminologist Casey Jordan will speak to some of the biggest problems plaguing our prison system and how we can better use prisons to deter crime in the future. Andy Kahan is the Director of Houston's Crime Victim’s Office. He's working towards making rehabilitation a higher priority for offenders and make overcrowding in our prisons a thing of the past.
