Prince Charles pays GCHQ a Royal visit

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visited GCHQ in Cheltenham this week in his role as Royal Patron of the Intelligence Services.
The Prince took the time to meet a large number of staff from across the organisation and hear about the individual roles they play in GCHQ’s mission to keep Britain safe.
During his tour His Royal Highness visited the Event Management Centre, a 24/7 rapid response unit that coordinates GCHQ’s response to critical incidents around the globe – from terrorism to serious and organised crime.
In a mark of remembrance, His Royal Highness laid a wreath on the GCHQ memorial for civilian and military staff who lost their lives in armed conflict. GCHQ has a long history of supporting British forces and on occasions its staff deploy to war zones to help support the military. Ninety-two GCHQ staff have received the medal for service in Iraq and 156 have received medals for service in Afghanistan.
Before he left, The Prince also addressed staff to express his support and admiration for the vital work they do.
Director GCHQ Robert Hannigan said: “It was an honour to host His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales today. He has been a longstanding and strong supporter of our mission to keep Britain safe, which gives us great pride. The warmth with which hundreds of staff greeted The Prince is a testament to this.”
