The Democrats are launching an all-out bid to grant DC Statehood, this would only mean more electoral votes for the Democrats. The area is already burdened by poverty and the local politicians here are as corrupt as can be. Here is why DC should NEVER be a state:

The corruption in DCis on par with the corruption in Chicago and Los Angeles. This alone should disqualify it from being a state but Democrats tend to look the other way when their voters are being used and abused.

The reason those in DC feel they deserve to be a state is no more than a thinly veiled power grab. Supporters claim that the district is not represented in the federal government, they want 2 senators and a representative to go to Congress as a way to get adequate representation. The size of the area and population do not justify this much

If DC becomes a state than territories like Guam and Puerto Rico have further justification to become states. Many in these areas oppose this because the autonomy of the regions provides many benefits.
Only democrats in these areas support the measure and this is so their party can obtain more control in the US government, it also means more federal funding for these areas. This would only further push the national debt and reinforce Democrat power in Washington.

The Princeton Tory pointed out in an article that the founding fathers had reason to move the capital out of Philadelphia and make it an area outside of any state. The founding fathers wanted the federal government to have no allegiance to any particular state.

If DC were to become a state they could manipulate congress to a wild degree. Those who go to work in Washington would be subject to new rules and regulations. Understand that Democrats control the DC area and the surrounding states and they would use this new power to further their political agenda. This is not exclusive to Democrats, if Republicans had the ability to get this power they would. In the spirit of the nation's founding, no political group should obtain this much authority over the capital of the entire nation.

The area we know as DC was given to the Federal government by Maryland and if it were to stop being the capital that land would be given back to Maryland. An article in the Princeton Tory also notes that a reading of Article IV in the constitution forbids the creation of a new state form the land of another. Turning DC into a state is not only a bad idea, it's also illegal.
