Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple, has been an outspoken critic of the atrocities committed by Israel for quite some time.  Now she is refusing to authorize a Hebrew translation of her award winning classic because Israel  is  ”guilty of apartheid.”

In a letter to Yediot Books, Walker said she would not allow the publication of her book into Hebrew because “Israel is guilty of apartheid and persecution of the Palestinian people, both inside Israel and also in the Occupied Territories.”

In the letter, published by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, Walker said she supports a boycott of Israel and hopes divestment  “will have enough of an impact on Israeli civilian society to change the situation.”

Walker went on to say that Israeli crimes were “worse” than what she experienced at the hands of segregation in America.
