Riddled with irony, US faces crisis on international stage: Don DeBar

Washington’s contradictory foreign policy is “emblematic of the crisis that the United States government faces on the international stage,” says political activist Don DeBar.
The New York-based radio host told Press TV on Friday that the US policies towards Russia are “riddled with irony.”
He was comparing the new round of sanctions against Russia, which US President Barack Obama signed into law on Thursday, with his remarks regarding “the futility of similar sanctions,” whist speaking about Cuba on Wednesday.
Obama signed the law giving him the power to slap more sanctions on Russia over Ukraine. He also signed sanctions against Venezuela.
“That is impossible to keep straight what’s going on from one day to another,” DeBar said, adding, although this policy has failed, “they’re pursuing it against two countries the following day.”
For years, the US has been targeting many countries in the world with sanctions, said the anti-war activist. “Well, once you isolate everybody else, you’re the one that’s isolated.”
On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that relations between Moscow and Washington “would be undermined” following new US legislation authorizing more anti-Russia bans over the Ukraine crisis.
“As the United States picks up its marbles and goes home it finds out… that the rest of the world has its own economic activity, its own needs, and its own resources,” DeBar said, noting, “We’re seeing the development of a new world that’s essentially occurring at an accelerated rate through the mismanagement of the resources of the US by the US government and policy makers.”
