'La Voz de Aztlan' : 'Peter the Great' Too Big for the Panama Canal but 'Admiral Chabanenko' is Not

The Kremlin has announced that the Russian warship "Admiral Chabanenko" will sail through the Panama Canal this week. This will be the first time for a Russian warship since World War II. The Panama Canal was once under the control of the USA but it came under control of Panama on December 31, 1999.
There was a plan to have the Russian nuclear powered cruiser "Peter the Great" to pass through but it was determined by Panamanian engineers that it was just too huge and it was decided that the submarine destroyer "Admiral Chabanenko" should instead sail through the tight canal.
A Russian naval flotilla that included "Peter the Great" and the "Admiral Chabanenko" has just completed successful military exercises with theVenezuelan Armed Forces near Puerto La Guiaira which included a visitby Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
