Multi-platinum selling artists U2 warned Americans to be wary of Donald Trump at a concert in Las Vegas Friday, days after the band’s singer Bono called the Republican presidential candidate “the worst idea that ever happened to America.”
Riffing off the Trump slogan, “What do you have to lose?” – which the GOP nominee used as a plea to African American voters imploring them to realize the Obama administration’s serious inadequacies – Bono asked the audience at the iHeartRadio Music Festival if they were ready to gamble their possessions under a Trump presidency.
“Are you ready to gamble your car?” Bono said during an interlude of the song, “Desire,” while video of Trump played behind the band. “Are you ready to gamble your house?”
Finally, the video clip stops with Trump saying, “The American Dream is dead.”
“The American Dream is alive!” Bono proclaims. “What do you have to lose? Everything! Everything!”
The band’s anti-Trump performance follows comments from Bono last week, in which he told CBS’ Charlie Rose Trump could destroy America.
“Look, America is like the best idea the world ever came up with. But Donald Trump is potentially the worst idea that ever happened to America, potentially,” Bono told Rose.
“It could destroy it, because of what we’re saying, because America’s not just a country. Ireland is a nice country. Great Britain is a great country — all the rest of it. It’s not an idea. America is an idea, and that idea is bound up in justice and equality for all — equality and justice for all, you know? I think he’s hijacked the party, and I think he’s trying to hijack the idea of America. And I think it’s bigger than all of us. I think it’s — this is really dangerous.”
