Billionaire businessman and presidential candidate Donald Trump, along with virtually every single other Republican candidate ever, has vowed to do away with the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, if he is elected.

Trump has been dogged mightily by media and the other candidates about exactly how he would get rid of Obamacare, and what specifically he would replace it with, all amidst accusations that he secretly supported the law and would keep the loathsome individual mandate in place.

Those allegations should be a moot point going forward, as Trump has released a seven-part plan to reform our nation’s health care system, according to CNN.

Calling it “simply a place to start,” Trump’s health care reform plan focused on repealing Obamacare and not replacing it with another comprehensive bill, but with small reforms that would allow competition and the free market to smooth out the government-created wrinkles in the system.

The seven parts of Trump’s proposal included:

1. Ask Congress to completely repeal Obamacare, including the individual mandate. “No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.”

2. Modify existing laws to allow for the sale and purchase of health insurance plans across state lines. “By allowing full competition in this market, insurance costs will go down and consumer satisfaction will go up.”

3. Make health insurance premium payments fully deductible on an individual’s tax return in the same way that businesses are allowed to deduct their premium payments.

4. Permit individuals and families to use tax-free Health Savings Accounts. These accounts would not only be allowed to accumulate, but also be transferable and inheritable, and would be flexible enough to use on behalf of other family members if necessary.

5. Require transparency in pricing by health care providers and health care organizations, such as insurance companies, doctors, hospitals and clinics. “Individuals should be able to shop to find the best prices for procedures, exams or any other medical-related procedure.”

6. Convert Medicaid funding into block grants to the states. “The state governments know their people best and can manage the administration of Medicaid far better without federal overhead.”

7. Remove barriers to entry in the pharmaceutical drug industry. Making pharmaceutical drugs more of a competitive free market would bring down prices and improve safety and reliability by allowing consumers more options to fill their prescription drug needs.

Of course, the success of all of these steps are contingent upon some of Trump’s other policy plans being put into place as well, such as fully enforcing immigration laws, rooting out waste and abuse, and setting up the economy for success with lower tax rates and less regulation, all of which will relieve pressures on the health care industry and free up money for consumers to spend.

The next time someone tells you that Donald Trump has no plan for repealing Obamacare and allowing it to be replaced by free market competition, simply direct them to Trump’s plan as published on his own website, where it can be viewed in all of its detail.
