Grassfire Nation Update

The so-called Death Tax is a punitive tax that not only kills jobs, but it can also destroy small businesses, farms and ranches -- many that have been passed down for generations.

Now the Obama administration is planning to take even more through the “Death Tax” by dramatically increasing the Estate Tax rate from 35 percent to 55 percent and dropping the current $5 million exemption down to just $1 million -- putting untold thousands of families, small businesses, farms and ranches at risk!

Posing the greatest risk to mature Americans who have spent their lifetimes carefully building enterprises -- whether businesses or portfolios with the hopes of passing them on to their families when they are gone, the Death Tax has been termed “destructive and misguided” by certain members of Congress.

However, if Obama gets his wish, the federal government will come knocking starting in 2013, imposing these new rates and potentially forcing thousands of families and businesses into financial ruin all in an effort to pay the increased Estate Tax rate!

 

+ + Message to Congress: Repeal the Death Tax

Efforts to end this punitive assault on the financial legacies of  mature Americans heating up in the House and Senate where legislation has been proposed that would permanently repeal the Death Tax.

Sen. John Thune (R-SD), and Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) have each introduced The Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act (S.2242, H.R. 1259), and the legislation is gaining momentum, gathering 34 co-sponsors in the Senate and more than 200 in the House …

Others are also beginning to speak up:

The American Farm Bureau Federation is an outspoken advocate of abolishing the Death Tax saying it would help protect farm families -- many of whom are asset rich but cash poor.  Given these situations, levying an Estate Tax would likely require the farm to be sold.

Even the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has reported that “repealing the Death Tax could create 1.5 million additional small business jobs [while] decreasing the national unemployment rate by a percent.”
