Governor Declares State of Emergency for North Carolina

At at 10am Saturday press conference Governor Bev Perdue declared a state of emergency for the Tarheel state in Raleigh.
By making the declaration the state qualifies for federal emergency assistance. According to media reports to get the money state and local agencies, municipal utilities and rural electric cooperatives have to spend more than $10.5 million on repairing utility poles and power lines.
The Governor also announced that 30 National Guard soldiers are also on standby in the state's Emergency Operations Center to help emergency crews.
