KETV, Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Holt County snowplows were out Tuesday night clearing 8 inches of hail that fell during a storm. Near O'Neill, pea- to marble-sized hail piled up on one stretch of roadway.

In Atkinson, there were reports of baseball-sized hail that broke out windows at the town's airport.

A weather system developing over extreme northwestern South Dakota could bring severe storms to the Omaha metro overnight.

KETV NewsWatch 7 chief meteorologist Bill Randby said he's watching the system as it develops, and said it could form hail-producing storms in Omaha between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Thursday.

"There's a slight risk of severe weather from Denver to Omaha, so it's hard to say exactly where the more intense storms will fire," Randby said.

If storms don't fire overnight, Randby said, he expects scattered severe activity on Thursday during daylight hours.
