Journeyman Pictures, published Sep 28, 2015 (emphasis added): In towns like St. George in the state of Utah, which were downwind of the [Nevada] test site, people found the nuclear program much more troubling. Claudia Peterson remembers seeing atomic blasts as a child growing up near St. George. “I was with my brother out in the garden and this ball of red flame came up over the horizon and I ran to the house to tell my mother there was flying saucer. Our neighbors had sheep, and I remember thinking during lambing season that it was normal to have piles of dead lambs — with two heads, or no legs, or just piles of dead baby lambs.” People in the town started to get sick. When she was a child, two of Claudia’s school friends died of cancer, and her father was diagnosed with a brain cancer. “I thought that was probably the hardest thing I was ever going to go through, but it was just the tip of the iceberg for what happened in our family”… Her daughter bethany was just 3 when she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, at the same time Claudia’s sister succumbed to melanoma. “So I came home, told my sister goodbye, took her off life support. Her youngest child was 6 months old, her oldest was like 14 at the time — and a month later our daughter died.”

Interview with LaVerne Kautz of Ritzville, Washington, published Aug 2, 2015 (at 5:45): “We were taught to believe in our government and everything that they told us [about Hanford], but I don’t anymore on… We had a lot of what we call ‘crooked calves’ and they’re blaming this on to the lupine [plant]. But we had done an average of 200 cattle a year that we ran, and we’d never had a problem with crooked calves [before] and we had a lot of lupine in our pastors, and we quit raising cattle in 1959… There’s been quite a few farmers with crooked calves.”

Interview with Kay Sutherland of Walla Walla, Washington, published Jul 26, 2015 (at 0:30 in): “During this period in the late 40s and early 50s [near Hanford], all the animals, all the farm animals, seemed to be dying for no reason. The dairy farmers couldn’t understand why all the animals were dying. All the dogs and cats were dying. All the baby calves being born we’re not surviving… My father worked for the creameries, [he said] for some reason all of them were dyingIt always stuck in my memory, why were all the animals dying or being born deformed? We could never understand why the animals were being born with crooked hooves. And I relate that to, now, how my daughter Jennifer was born — where she would have the crooked hoof syndrome.”

Der Speigel, Mar 24, 2011: The former plutonium plant in Hanford, Washington is one of the most contaminated places on earth… The lambs were born without eyes or mouths. Some had legs that had grotesquely grown together; others had no legs at all. Many were stillborn. Thirty-one were lost in a single night… And then the babies started getting sick… farmer Nels Allison first noticed something was ominously wrong in [Basin City during 1962] “Son of a bitch,” he said to his wife. Sheep were always “the first to lie down and die” when something was amiss… He started referring to that deadly night “the Night of the Little Demons.”… their tale is one of thousands of horror stories that took place in the area surrounding Hanford… The site haunts the locals to this day — and imperils them… pride has turned into horror. The farmers in the area and people… are among the most highly radiated humans on earth… thousands upon thousands of workers, residents and farmers were deliberately contaminated… Fallout from the experiment, which was called “Green Run,” drifted all the way to California. People wondered why they suddenly got sick…
