The International Atomic Energy Agency said Wednesday the transfer occurred when Unit 4, one of six reactors, had routine maintenance on Nov. 30.

The fire in Unit 4's fuel storage pond, an area where used nuclear fuel is cooled, caused the release of radioactivity into the atmosphere.

Units 1, 2 and 3 shut down automatically when a huge quake hit on Friday. Since then, all three have been rocked by explosions.

IAEA said the explosions were caused by a build-up of hydrogen.
