India Raises Nuclear Stakes Against Pakistan

According to New Delhi's senior atomic officials, India has built nuclear weapons with yields far above what is considered "proper strategic deterrent" by the global community. India possesses warheads measured at 200 kilotons -- this is way beyond most of Pakistan's nukes which is thought to be 50 kiloton warheads. The deadly question is: "why is this being announced?"
The debate has fuelled speculation that India might be getting ready for another nuclear test. A test would raise tensions with Pakistan possibly setting off a single strike nuclear exchange. Of lesser importance, it would also jeopardize a newly signed civilian nuclear deal between India and the United States. The International Security Community considers this action deadly serious.
