UPDATE from New York's 'Superstorm' Sandy epicenter

I just received a special report from Gary LeBlanc who heads up Mercy Chefs -- a relief agency that provides hot meals to disaster victims.

Gary's team is now staging their operations in New York City.

As you may know, Grassfire has partnered with Gary to provide tornado and hurricane victims with thousands of meals this year.

Here is an excerpt from Gary's message...

"We have set up on the lower east side of Manhattan serving in an impoverished and hard-hit area of the city.

Last night the food line to the Mercy Chefs Mobile Kitchen stretched around the block before we opened our doors to begin serving people.

With a short turnaround time, we were able to feed 900 people a bowl of hot chili and cornbread.

The need here is mind-boggling.

Many of the victims we are serving are without water and power - and may be without power for as many as 10 days!

We are told that there are over 40,000 people living in the immediate vicinity of where we will be serving.

That is a tremendous amount of people - and a tremendous commitment.

To feed 40,000 people is an astronomical commitment. I am believing God for a miracle each day because it costs us about $10 to provide a hot meal to a family of four who have no place else to turn for a meal after this massive storm."

The Grassfire Nation team has been generous in the past in supporting the work of Mercy Chefs - and now I need to tell you about this tremendous opportunity to directly help victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Mercy Chefs is expecting to provide tens of thousands of meals in the coming days to victims of Superstorm Sandy. I'm hoping that Grassfire team members will once again step forward and sponsor hundreds if not thousands of these meals. Will you consider making a tax-deductible contribution today to help Mercy Chefs meet this need? Please go here:

+ + Just $10 Helps Feed A Family Of Four In Sandy's Path

It costs about $10 to provide a hot meal to a family of four who have seen their lives turned upside down in the past few days by this massive storm. If you can help with a gift of $30, $50, $100 or more, Mercy Chefs will put it to work immediately in response to Sandy.

And as you know, Mercy Chefs is totally dependent on the generosity of friends like you. Your tax-deductible gifts literally make it possible for Gary's team to provide this service.

Eric, a Grassfire team member recently wrote...

"Awesome creative way to start assisting those in that area devestated by Sandy storm. Bless you all who are involved and we will pray that everyone is safe while battling untold difficulties getting food to those in need. GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

Thank you, on behalf of Grassfire, Mercy Chefs and the victims in New York for any help you can provide.

Steve Elliott, Grassfire

P.S. Mercy Chefs is in lower Manhattan feeding tens of thousands of people victimized by Superstorm Sandy. Helping Mercy Chefs provide hot meals is a very practical way for Grassfire team members to help our fellow Americans who are suffering in the path of this destructive storm. I know Gary personally and have seen the great work his Mercy Chefs team is doing. Please help by providing a hot meal for one, two, three, five or more families in Sandy's path.
