Filmmaker touts 'America' while facing prosecution
See the newly released trailer for “America”:
NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Dinesh D’Souza, who is being prosecuted on campaign-finance charges that many believe are payback for his film “2016: Obama’s America,” unveiled at the CPAC annual conservative conference Friday a new trailer for his upcoming film, which imagines a world without America.
“I feel very humbled to be here and standing in the shadow of George Washington,” D’Souza said.
The trailer shows a scene from “America” imagining George Washington being killed in battle and the colonists losing the Revolutionary War.
“We are at a moment in America when we are facing a crisis of leadership,” he said. “How badly we need a Washington, a Lincoln or a Reagan. We don’t have them, but we do have us.”
D’Souza said he was not happy that his predictions about Obama in “2016: Obama’s America” have come true.
But if Obama was upset about that movie, he said, “Wait until he sees the new one.”
He said Obama is “playing out our script” like an actor.
“He reminds me a bit of a toy soldier who walks into the wall and keeps going,” D’Souza said.
Born in India, D’Souza declared, “I’m an immigrant, and I do love America.”
He said the world is still in the American Era that began at the end of World War II.
“But look around the world, and there are threats on the horizon and new emerging empires – the Islamic empire, Russia and Putin,” D’Souza said.
For progressives, he said, “change” is another word for “progress,” but not all change is progress.
Modern progressives, he noted, allege America and its wealth is based on theft.
“What we do in America is we take this argument head-on and we make the moral argument for America,” he said.
George Washington, said D’Souza, “risked everything for a country that had not yet come into being.”
“We have America. What are we going to do to keep her?” he asked the CPAC audience.
“Let us resolve right here and right now that liberty is our choice.”
As WND reported, Republican Sens. Charles E. Grassley, Jeff Sessions, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are among the lawmakers who have signed a letter to the FBI demanding details of the D’Souza investigation, saying it smacks of “selective prosecution.”
WND reported Gerald Molen, the producer of D’Souza’s two full-length feature film documentaries, “2016: Obama’s America,” released in 2012, and the about-to-be-released “America,” characterized D’Souza’s criminal indictment as a Soviet-style “political prosecution.”
“When Dinesh D’Souza can be prosecuted for making a movie, every American should ask themselves one question: ‘What will I do to preserve the First Amendment?’” he said.
D’Souza told WND that Molen also was harassed by the Obama administration for his role producing D’Souza’s full-length feature film documentaries.
“Right after ’2016′ came out, Molen got a call from the IRS,” D’Souza said.
