300 Nevada Union Students Out Sick

Three hundred students from Nevada Union High School were out sick Wednesday, with about 70 percent of them with flu-like symptoms.

Nevada Joint Union High School District Superintendent Ralf Swenson said about 2,300 students attend the school.Parents of ill students are being told to stay home and not come back until they are symptom-free for 24 hours, school officials said.Principal Marty Mathiesen said the school has lost about $12,000 because of the absences.A campus nurse has been talking with the Nevada County Public Health Department on a daily basis, the district said.It's unknown if the sick students have the H1N1 virus.The district is still trying to find out how many students were absent Thursday.
